First open a image file. File > Open > image.jpg- Open
From layer, click right button on Background layer then select- Duplicate Layer. A Background copy layer will appear.
Go to Image > Adjustments > Black & White > Ok (Preset: Default). The image will be black & white.
Select Quick Selection Tool and click on the image to select some part of the image that you want color image (instead of black & white image). To increase mouse size press [ and to decrease size press ].
During selection, you will need to use Add to Selection or Subtract from selection from option at the top left corner.
You can also hold Ctrl + click to subtract from selection.
When you have finished selection part of the image, click Refine Edge button at top middle corner. A Refine Edge window box will appear.
Set Smooth: 4
Click OK.
From layer, click on icon Add a Mask.
The selected part of the image will convert to black & white color and the rest other part will be color image.
At Background copy layer select the right side thumbnail icon (2nd thumbnail).
Go to Mode > Adjustments > Invert
Now the selected part will be color image and rest other (unselected) part will be black & white.
